ensemble mise-en is pleased to announce a call for musicians/ensembles to work with composers Moon Young Ha and Adam Mirza as resident artists at MISE-EN_PLACE Bushwick, Brooklyn in Spring or Summer 2020.
Ha-Mirza Project 2020 seeks to facilitate new exchanges and professional opportunities for an ensemble or soloist to create and present a concert in New York City. Interested musicians/ensembles should submit a proposal describing themselves, and what interests them about working with composers Moon Young Ha (moon-music.org) and Adam Mirza (adammirza.com). At the conclusion of the residency, the artists-in-residence will produce a final concert with our support (venue, staff, audio/video documentation, program, publicity) that will include works of their own repertoire as well as the new compositions by Ha and Mirza.
We are hoping to find musicians with unique voices who will engage with us in creative dialog before, during and after the residency. Details will be discussed and workshopped remotely, to the extent possible, prior to the visit. Should we receive multiple compelling proposals, we will schedule additional residencies in the future. Preference will be given to musicians with whom we have not previously worked. We are hoping to discover many exciting new collaborators through this process!
Your proposal can be brief or elaborate, broad or specific. Please submit a single document (pdf or word) that includes a description of yourself and your interest in this project, bios for each musician, a preferred residency period(s) (up to 2 weeks during Spring/Summer 2020), and links to 3 (or more) media files.
OTHER NOTES: This call is open to any instrumentation, voice type or ensemble configuration. Applicants may be of any nationality and age. While we do not limit the number of musicians, please consider the maximum housing we can provide are 3 small bedrooms. Alternatively, residents can make other housing arrangements if they prefer, at their own cost. Selected musicians will receive a modest stipend (see above) but are responsible for covering travel, food and other personal expenses. Visit https://place.mise-en.org/inventory/ for the list of available percussion and electronic equipment in MISE-EN_PLACE. Residents may work with other musicians and composers although the primary use of MISE-EN_PLACE should be preparing for the residency concert. Residents will have primary access to the rehearsal space but may need to accommodate other users from time to time. Please feel free to contact us with any questions at firstname.lastname@example.org.
